Violi Calvert, the Producer and Co-Broadcaster of the Filipino-Australian program Radio Tagumpay was given an Inspiring Women 2023 award on March 21 at the ninth Adhika awards on March 21 at Dooley’s Catholic Club at Regents Park.

Community organisation Adhika (Filipino word that means ‘aspiration’) held its ninth International Women’s Day (IWD) forum and gala dinner, turning the spotlight on Filipino-Australian women who champion empowerment and gender equity.

Violi was given the award in recognition of being a freelance writer and as part of community radio in NSW for more than fifteen years, with the last nine years being at Triple H 100.1FM. As a producer and co-broadcaster she ensures that their radio program provides high standard of content, a platform for aspiring members of the community, for sharing inspiring stories and for celebrating achievements of the members of the Filipino-Australian community.

Violi enjoys the challenges and satisfaction of producing and broadcasting two hour radio show with the dedicated and talented Radio Tagumpay Team and contributors. Aside from tasks within the studio, she spearheaded the 2015 and 2016 Inspire Fundraising Concert for Triple H 100.1 FM and two charity initiatives and the 2021 Selfless Love Concert fundraising for international students impacted by the pandemic.

In her acceptance speech, Violi stated: “I would like to accept the Adhika IWD recognition to express my gratitude to all who trusted me with their stories which I had shared on radio and in my writing for more than 15 years. I’d also like to thank those who have helped me in the various activities and projects I was involved with; my family, especially my husband John, for the support that enabled me to carry out all my volunteer activities.”
